About
“Group Up & Start Up”
Our vision is for students of all majors and backgrounds and interests to come check out ES, meet people, get their feet wet in the field of entrepreneurship, join or create a start-up team to enter an idea into the Neat Ideas Fair or enter a business plan into the Business Plan Competition, and ultimately launch a viably sustainable business with the funding, personnel, and resources it needs to succeed. We empower students using: general meetings with themes and topics, high profile events, networking sessions, workshops, partnerships, speakers, tools, interactive models, materials, community organizations, as well as guest mentors, consultants, and analysts to facilitate workshops and hold review sessions for our start-up groups. We have fun working on new ventures in social, professional, interactive, richly empowered environment.
1.) Group Up – Identify an idea of interest, join a team, or start one
2.) Scope Out – Perform formal feasibility and market research and analysis
3.) Write Up – Construct your NIF exhibit or BPC business plan
4.) Start Up – Receive funding, resources, and launch the venture
An Open Mind
We embrace any idea or creative project as having an opportunity to undergo formal feasibility analysis before it is ruled out – our “petri dish” is always ready to receive seeds to spark new life.
An Open Field
We value a cross-disciplinary need for any major, any personality, any background, any interest – diverse individuals and skill sets are indispensable to innovation.
Sustainability
We differentiate between a creative project/idea and viable, sustainable business opportunity for the marketplace using a traditional feasibility analysis process.
Relationship-based (not Program-based)
Our events and programming exist to help students group up and start up – our students do not come to ES to put on events and have cool meetings – the programs exist to foster relationships, the relationships do not exist to foster events… they exist to foster new venture innovation and empower NIF and BPC teams.
Readiness to Receive
We value and appreciate our experienced guest experts who interact with our student teams and impart wisdom into the true nuts and bolts of their ventures – they pour into students, and the ROI touches lives as well as markets.
Community
We honor and submit to the covering of the Office of Student Involvement as well as the College of Business at San Jose State University, and we value every stakeholder who contributes positively to our Silicon Valley entrepreneurship community.
Professionalism
We are not stuffy, but we are serious about: our desire to mold young professionals into tomorrow’s leaders, a high standard for the entrepreneurial process, and the way we represent our organization, college, community, and brand.
Passionate Commitment
We are passionate about entrepreneurship, innovation of all kinds, adding value to a market or community, and persevering despite obstacles or failure… as well as having a great time meeting other students and members of the Silicon Valley professional community in fun, social, professional settings and events.
